Position Overview

This position is responsible for performing tool changes to aid in the production of molded parts. This includes maintaining tooling, maintaining the tooling database and performing minor repairs. This position is also responsible for operating injection molding machines and related activities to produce injecting molded parts. This technician ensures parts are produced to meet required demand and quality standards. 

 

Assigned Functions or Duties

  • Prepare tooling for installation in injection molding machines

  • Clean and maintain tooling used in injection molding machines

  • Assist in troubleshooting molding problems related to tooling

  • Record tool information in tooling database

  • Communicate with Molding Department on status and priorities for tool changes

  • Perform minor reconditioning and repair activities on tooling

  • Keep tooling and tooling area organized and clean

  • Set up and operate Arburg injection molding machines

  • Monitor molding machines and ensure they are running properly

  • Regrind feedstock

  • Inspect parts for flash, cracks, short shots or voids

  • Trim and assemble parts as needed

  • Ensure inventory counts and machine counts coincide

  • Log counts on inventory data sheet.

  • Clean molds

  • Install new equipment into machines such as; heat controller, air lines, proximity switches and water lines for the molds

  • Run and operate star robots

  • Maintain a clean work area

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma

  • Experience in Metal and/or Plastic Injecting Molding preferred

  • Working knowledge of trimming and assembly of parts

  • Experience in working with molds and tooling

  • Knowledgeable and experienced with mechanical installations and equipment

  • Familiar with other standard concepts, practices and procedures within the manufacturing field

  • Ability to learn quickly

  • Detail oriented

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to focus and work under minimal supervision

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform duties while standing thru-out an (8) hour shift excluding breaks and lunches

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

  • Must be able to keep a consistent pace thru-out an (8) hour shift, excluding breaks and lunches

  • Must be able to bend below waist level

  • Must be able to reach arms above head

  • Must have manual dexterity

  • Must be able to see and focus on small parts produced

  • Must perform duties in a safe manner while exercising and displaying common sense while working with moving parts, chemicals, and gases.

  • Must be able to understand, remember and apply oral and /or written instructions or other information

  • Must be able to perform basic math calculations, add, subtract, multiply and divide.
